Elements of Rope Skipping

The three major forms of rope skipping include: single rope, wheel and double dutch. Each form offers new challenges and allows jumpers at every level to experience the fun of rope skipping.

Single Rope is a form of skipping that allows the jumper to work at his own speed. It can easily be practised at any time or place. Jumpers can work together by creating routines with their friends. It also provides the opportunity for jumpers to create many new tricks and trick combinations at every level.

The Wheel Formation offers many oppertunities. This improves the jumper's coordination skills and communication. Jumpers often find that the unique timing involved in jumping wheel is addictive. There is no limit to the tricks and switches that can be performed.

Double Dutch is also a very challenging way of skipping. Jumpers quickly learn that every part of the double dutch is important. Working together; adjusting to each other, and achieving success as a group is what double dutch is all about. Everyone shares in the enjoyment of accomplishing new tricks.

These styles of skipping can also be mixed. It's possible to jump a single rope while in double dutch, or to go from double dutch to wheel.

These are not the only forms of skipping. Other methods of skipping include using a long rope, two people in one rope, the traveller, and so on. This is only the beginning, the sky's the limit!
